Beeswax Candles 101

All candles are created equal, right? From what we’ve seen, that’s not quite true! Beeswax candles behave a little differently from candles made from other waxes.

Here are a few things we can tell you about beeswax candles.

1. Beeswax is a pretty tough wax. Even when blended with coconut oil, it still burns a lot more slowly than other waxes do. That’s why it needs to be paired with thicker wicks.
2. You might see some cracks on the surface of your candle after putting out the flame. Don’t fret; it’s just beeswax being beeswax. Your candle will still work as intended when you relight it. Those cracks appear sometimes when a candle cools too quickly.
3. You might notice that your candles have different shades of yellow. It all depends on the batch of beeswax that was used to create them; hue variations are normal for beeswax, especially when you see the raw stuff.
4. Beeswax candles give off a milder scent than soy and paraffin candles do, so you might want to try other candles if you want something a lot stronger. If you appreciate a subtle scent, however, beeswax candles are for you.
5. Beeswax candles have a pretty long shelf life. To keep your candles in good condition, make sure to store them away from direct sunlight.
